    jumping to timecode

I'm trying to jump ahead to a point in time in the source, but I'm getting the error beep.

The proper timecode IS displayed in the window above the source monitor (V1 TC1). If I manually find the right moment, the timecode above the monitor is the same timecode I was searching for. But when I look for it with the search function, I get the beep.

Specific example: I'm looking for the moment at 00:11:20:00.

i start out with the source image at 00:09:50:17.

I'm on a macbook, so I hit control twice, opening the digit window in the middle of the source monitor.

In that window, I enter 112000, and I see it get automatically turned into 11:20:00. I hit enter, and get the error beep.

Same thing happens if I actually type out 00:11:20:00.

But if I play the clip, I can get to that moment, with 00:11:2000 displayed above the monitor.

    What am I doing wrong?

    thanks!

    Re: jumping to timecode

What version of Media Composer please?

I've noticed this issue too - just this week. I'm on MC 7.0.4.4 in a Windows 1080p 23.976 project. I have two types of transcoded footage - DNxHD36, and 3:1 which was transcoded in a 30i project and then brought in via Open Bin.

Only the 30i media is allowing me to jump to specific timecode points via the number pad. The 23.976 stuff - which is actually the right stuff native to the project - just does nothing.

Let me know what version of MC you're running. In the meantime, I'll run this one up the Avid flagpole. See if we get any answers. It could be an issue inherent to the codec or the version environment, but I doubt it.

I'll also be calling Avid Tech Support about it in a half-hour when the clock strikes 9am. I'll keep you posted.

**UPDATE - Tech support is now attemting to replicate the issue on one of their systems. They will be getting back to me soon with the results. This will determine if it is a real issue, or simply some settings I need to change on my end. Standby..

    Re: jumping to timecode

    Escalated.

Here is a description of how to replicate the issue:

    1.     Media Composer 7.0.4.4 (Windows or Mac doesn't matter)

    2.     1080p 23.976 project

    3.     Media Creation set to DNxHD 36

    4.     AMA Link to a clip. It does not matter what frame rate the original clip is.

    5.     Transcode the clip to DNxHD36

    6.     Load the clip into the source monitor

    7.     Attempt to jump to a timecode point within, using the keyboard's number pad. *This should fail.

    8.     Next, create a 30i project

    9.     Media Creation set to 3:1

    10. Repeat the process. This time, using the 30i frame rate and 3:1 codec, the timecode jump should be successful.

    Re: jumping to timecode

Hi miconian. Just a status update.

From Avid Customer Care (phone support):

"...we are now replicating it on our end then will create a bug report. I will keep you posted on this."

See? You aren't doing anything wrong. :) It's just a bug, and now it's a known one - thanks to your post.

I'll update you with anything further...
