    DJI Inspire

    hi guys,

having some probs here with Inspire drone footage. The footage on itself looks great and is recorded 25p.

We also edited and monitored the show in 25p. However now we need to deliver to the broadcaster who demands a AVC-I 100 108050i mxf file. Switching the Format setting to 50i looks no different to all xdcam footage (which was also recorded 25p) but the drone footage looks terrible. Especially horizontal lines, highly detailed parts of the image like leafs on a tree, lights flickering on the ocean water etc. has a lot of flickering and ugliness.

Tried importing with upper and odd field settings, tried mpeg streamclip, tried amalinking and adjusting source settings,.. nothing helps. Found 1 thing that works but that's not really an option for our workflow, the flicker removal effect in fcp7 Big Smile

    Any ideas?

    tnx

Forgot to mention the Drone footage was recorded 1920x1080, so it's not a 4K-to-HD downsizing aliasing issue..

Assuming when you change the project setting a motion adapter is automatically added....open the Motion Effect Editor and play with the interpolation settings and see if you can get a more pleasing result.   Be sure to judge this on a broadcast monitor that shows interlaced video properly and make sure the video is playing (not in pause).  For what it's worth, I ran into this issue earlier in the year and I think it's somehow camera related.  Ended up picking alternate shots in a few cases because I could not get an acceptable result.

    Re: DJI Inspire

I see this all the time and have reported it to avid.  They have recreated the issue and logged it with enginering.

DJ Inspire only shoots TrueP which I believe to be the source of the issue.  Only work around I have found was to use a subtle blur.

although to be more specific for me it happens downscaling from 4k to 1080p.
