Hi George, I have sent you an email with links to the two updates that are required for W7. With an Avid Knowledge base article.  Just these updates worked here on a system that had no updates after SP1.  Good luck.

    Thank you Andrew.

Pace's web site on the topic:
    https://www.ilok.com/#!aux

Although, while this addresses the iLok errors, I don't think this addresses the original problem with audio device initialization.  I might suspect ASIO in that case as previously suggested.

I resolved this by downloading the Legacy drivers for iLok as I told you at FB.

In my case everything runs smoothly now. All plugins are in tact and no errors appear.

Thanks to you too. The problem might remains for the friend that started this thread though.

Can I get the same email for Windows 7 SP1 users? Is there a better version of Windows 7 to be running? PACE was a problem for me, too. Thanks!

Re: MC 8.8 fails to launch

After a sojourn in reboot purgatory:

    smyers63:

    Mark:

Other programs also work Mbox Pro 3rd gen.

Mark, does your audio hardware appear in the system and does it work outside of MC?  You seem to say it does but not specifically.  If you have external or add-on audio hardware, how about removing it and trying MC temporarily with built-in audio hardware?

Should be "Other programs work with Mbox Pro 3rd gen."

Shut down. Turn off MBox. Disconnect MBox. Reboot. MC crashes. Shut down. Reconnect MBox. Reboot. MC Crashes.

Mostly OT: Tried generating new audio source by ripping old CD. Unable to do so. Can play CDs in CD/DVD drive using assorted players. Initial perusal of internet suggests Windows uses a now uninstalled part of deprecated quicktime. Suggested workarounds?

    smyers63:

Pace service defaulting to automatic start and needing to be changed to automatic start-delayed.

Now set to delayed start. No effect on my matter.

    Mark:

    AndrewAction:

Does this CPU have BM desktop software installed?

    Yes

    AndrewAction:

If so try re-installing it AFTER PT's and MC have been installed.

    Will do

Uninstalled Resolve, Fusion, Fusion Connection & DV. Reinstalled DV. MC crashes. Reinstalled other BMD programs (& MC crashes).

Haven't yet tried purging ASIO driver. Haven't yet tried reinstalling older Nvidia driver. Likelihood that's the problematic audio hardware?

    Mark,

The suggestions regarding Pace were for George who had a different problem which was related to the Pace software.

Since you also have a crash without the external hardware, your MC install could be corrupt.  Did you extract the installer to the root level of a drive before running the MC install?  If not, the long path names used by the installer could very well have failed.  Could that have been an issue for you?

I noticed pace reinstalled itself during the MC install. I figured I'd likely have the same issue after resolving my issue. Might as well nip it in the bud now.

Good thought. The installs via Apman were from whatever default location ApMan uses. The manual installs were from well below top level. (I.e. C:\downloads\NLE-VFx\avid\mc\mc 8\mc8.8.0\Media_Composer_8.8.0_Win\MediaComposer\Installers\MediaComposer\Avid Media Compsoer.msi )

Re: MC 8.8 fails to launch

    Mark,

We'd hope that from the AppMan, it would be OK.  The defaults I've seen for AppMan are C:\AvidDownloads\EX for the extracted files and C:\AvidDownloads\Downloads for the initial downloads.

If that msi file was part of an extracted zip, I think we've found the source of your trouble or least a major part of it.  You'll almost surely have trouble with an extracted zip file if the extraction isn't at a high enough level (close enough to the root level).  It doesn't take many extra characters in the many paths to cause failure.  I've not seen any error when this happens, either.  From my experience, the install seems to go fine but then MC has various kinds of problems.  It's been a long time since I tried an install with the extracted files not at the root level but I did that for years before it became a problem and once or twice after it became a problem but before it became known as a problem.

You can usually get away with putting the extracted files in a folder with a short name but keep it very short if you want to do that.  And you should extract them again to be sure they're all there.

    Morning Scott,

ApMan does place files within top level C:\AvidDownloads. Specifically, C:\AvidDownloads\EX\Media_Composer_8.8.0_Win.extract\MediaComposer\Installers\MediaComposer\Avid Media Composer.msi.

I can delete C:\AvidDownloads\EX\Media_Composer_8.8.0_Win.extract & allow ApMaN to download 8.8 for the third time, manually download a thrid time or extract an already downloaded copy to a new location (e.g. C:\TMP). 5x  2.25 GB for the zip & ~4 GB, well, a billion here, a billion there, pretty soon, you're talking real storage.

Re: MC 8.8 fails to launch

    Hi, Mark.

I'm not suggesting you download any more copies of the installer.  More installers aren't needed unless it turns out you have corrupted downloads.  I don't think that's necessarily the case.  It's more likely you just have a corrupted installation.

Since you mentioned installing both from the AppMan and from manual installs and the path you gave for the location of your manual install was way too deep to insure a good installation, I only suggested that you extract the zip again into a location that wasn't more than only a very short path down from the root, if not the root.

There's no reason to keep the extracted files you have in that deep path.  You should delete them.  You only need one set of extracted files and that should be at the proper level on the drive.

Since neither the AppMan or extracted zip method has worked for you so far, I think you should delete what's in the AppMan folders (downloaded and extracted), delete your zip extraction that's so deep (not the downloaded zip), then extract the zip again into a location that's appropriate.  Simply running the installer again from there might repair the installation and that's how I'd start.  If that doesn't work, I'd uninstall MC, Appman, Pace, and Sentinel.  Then I'd reinstall MC from the extracted zip that's at the right folder level.

When following that link Geoge did you end up downloading and installing this file "windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.msu" (488MB's). It is a standalone MS update and that is what worked for me.
