MC8.9 - background transcoding not working

Just started a project in MC8.9 in which I AMA linked all clients media so that I could just transcode the sections I needed once the rough-cut was complete.

As I progressed I decided to transcode bits as I went, knowing that they would definately be required eventually. I set them to transcode in the background so I could carry on editing on other parts of the project.

These were not long clips, but I realised about an hour later that the background transcode was still happening (green rotating circle), however when I opened up the queue all transcodes were still 'pending'. they were still pending after i'd been away from the workstation for an hour!

I cancelled the background queue and rendered manually, which took about 3 minutes.

Anyone else having the issue? Can anyone explain this behaviour?

Re: MC8.9 - background transcoding not working

Can't explain it but try stopping your background services and then looking in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Background to see if you have any old .AMB files present (old renders that failed). I've had failed jobs sit in this folder and essentially prevent further background renders / transcodes.

If present - delete them and reboot and try again.

No guarantees but this certainly resolved an issue I was having.

Re: MC8.9 - background transcoding not working

If that doesn't work, one other approach that I've seen work is to uninstall MC and then go to C:\Program Files\Avid\ and delete the 'Editor Trancode' folder (for some reason this seems to hang around). Then re-install MC. I have had this approach fix an otherwise broken background transcoder.

Seems like voodoo - I know.

    Good luck
