Quick Time RGB+Alpha export from After Effects not working?

Working with motion graphics in After Effects and normally export out QuickTime RGB+Alpha, DNxHR/DNxHD and import into Avid as a Alpha Channel Invert on import white = opaque.

Lately on 8.9.2 the QT imports are breaking up, so I switch over to AVI export from AE which are just as clean and work fine when importing.  Still curious as to why QT is giving me trouble?

Ι export QT animation not DNxHD and they import normally at MC.

I agree with George, if rendering out of AE with an Alpha I use Animation codec. If no Alpha, I use DNx.

Re: Quick Time RGB+Alpha export from After Effects not working?

I use to use animation all the time it is lossless but have stopped because supposedly it outputs 8bit.  PNG looks great but it is slow on export and import. As I said I tried AVI but it is also I believe 8bit unless you use the Black Magic codec but then you can’t get RGB+Alpha output only Alpha.  So I’m back to a PNG sequence output.

I’m in the middle of a graphics heavy project now so I have little time to try something new and un-tested.  My thinking is Quick Time is a dead codec for pc users, which is probably why it stopped working for me in my export workflow. XDCAM MXF OP1a might be worth a try but I’m not sure if you can get an RGB+Alpha out of that codec in Media Encoder and have Avid recognize it as that in link to.

Yeah, DNx with alpha used to work from AE to MC but it doesn't anymore apparently. We are exporting tiff sequences from AE now but this takes a lot of time to import in to MC and the quality of uncompressed is unnecessary for lots of projects we do. Really wish there was a quicker way to do this. Yeat a nother example that mac F-ed us :)

Re: Quick Time RGB+Alpha export from After Effects not working?

I've just run in to this issue, which sucks majorly.

Is there any way to add AVI as an export option in After Effects on MacOS?

EDIT: randomly, the original file types (e.g. Apple Animation or DNxHD in mov wrapper) seems to work ok from Source Browser, just not when dragged in, which causes a system exception for me!
