I've always been intrigued by the Gopro line, but I have no experience with them. I see the Hero 6 Black is available for a $100 discount, so I'm wondering a few things. Of course the thing that interests me the most is the 1080p 240 fps settings using the HEVC aka H.265 codec.
I'm guessing MC won't like it and that it will need to be transcoded to something else first. I have Squeeze 11 Pro, though I don't use is much so I don't know if it can transcode the files to something MC might like. It looks like Gopro has a third party converter called Handbrake, but I know zip about that, either.
So... anyone have a work flow to suggest?
I don't do this professionally, simply a hobbiest.
Best Regards
So, no gopro fans.
Maybe you should rephrase your question - or at least add that what you are looking for is how to transcode 240 fps H265 (HVEC) into a codec that will work with MC?
I don't have an answer for you but I'll bet someone else on this forum does. A quick Google search also indicates that you are not the first to ask this question (and more broadly the question of how to transcode HVEC for use in MC). I didn't see a specific answer other than to transcode.
My guess is that the 240 fps is going to be an issue but perhaps there's a way around that.
I'll be interested to see if anyone else has some real-world experience with this. Good luck.

Transcode is the way to go. I would use an external solution like DAvinci Resolve - would have to check that the free version can do HEVC though.
I would look to something like AviDemux to get the files into a frame rate and codec or intermediate codec, that can be used by MC. Avidemux, like Handbrake is open source software but unlike Handbrake, which is basically an encoder, Avidemux includes filters that allow manipulation of the frame rate. To use the filters you must re encode but it will also allow editing of various codecs, to I Frames, without re encoding, using copy mode and various wrappers.
Check it out, the general release version should be getting updated soon, I'm currently using one of the nightly updates but the general release is sound enough.

P.S. It doesn't currently handle DNxHD, I have requested this but the developers obviously have their priorities.
Thanks for those replies. I too have spent probably too much time looking for some solutions. Mostly I see the same questions, or leads to some of the dubious file converters. I found one site that discusses conversion to high quality codecs and suggests:
Video Converter Ultimate by Wondershare, or
Adobe Media Encoder.

I know nothing about them, but they do have trial software available. Now I'm trying to find some sample Gopro 6 HEVC 240 FPS files to download and try out, but have had no luck so far with that. Still looking.
PS. After all this searching I am now feeling a strange urge to become a gnarly snowboarder/surfer/base jumper/mountain biker/wingsuit flyer. Dude.
You might take a look at TMPGEnc Mastering Works v6. It sells for about $120.00 US. I have used it in the past, and I think the latest version just might handle the Go Pro 240 fps HEVC. You can download a trial version and test it out.
Just my 2 cents

GoPro's Quik | Desktop https://shop.gopro.com/softwareandapp/quik-%7C-desktop/Quik-Desktop.html is free & may function as a mezaninne CODEC. I cannot determine at the present time. It requires Win 10; it declines to install under Win7. A non-issue for the OP.

I know what you mean, I remember seeing this video a good few years ago and thinking, now there's something I would love to try, when I'm too old to care anymore.
