Intel RST behavior after an Isis 5000 system drive failure and RMA

    Greetings community, Avid, Bob,

Recently I had a customer with a failed system drive on an 'old' ISIS 5000. This system is to be replaced with a Nexis but it is still kept under support and an RMA was ordered.

To my surprise Avid shipped a 1TB seagate drive to replace the original 250GB drive and unfortunately Intel RST 9.6 refuses to recognize it while the 1TB is 100% fine. Support decided to ship a second drive which (not unexpectedly) also is not reconized.

Now there is a knowledgebase article describing the issue: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Error_Message/Port-Unknown-after-replacing-a-failed-System-Drive-on-a-ISIS-5000-5500-chassis

but as the isis is used in a news production environment with 24h ingest, the customer was hesitant to allow me to restart the ISIS which I accepted as the whole point of using ISIS/Nexis and the raid1 inside the ISIS 5000 is not needing to power down/restart the engine in case of a disk failure.

I was wondering if others encountered a similar issue and if updating the Intel RST controller to the latest version for windows 2008, RST 14.8,

is adviced/supported and if it will fix the issue? (although that will probably also require a restart)

    Thanks.
