Which BM desktop video drivers for mini-monitor?

We're using BlackMagic Ultrastudio mini-monitors in our suites and have previously experienced  BM Desktop video drivers causing problems with MC.

I'm setting up a new client with MC 18.4 and PT 18.4 on Mac OS 10.13.3, and wondering whether to use Desktop video v10.9.11, 10.9.12 or 10.10. Does anybody have experience of any of these versions?

    Thanks

    Nigel

Re: Which BM desktop video drivers for mini-monitor?

    Hi,

I was happily running 10.9.8 with MC2018.4 and Mac OS 10.12.6. I've just upgraded the MC to 2018.5 and installed the recommended 10.9..11 Not upgraded the OS to High Sierra. All seems well.

    I don't think 10.9.12 or 10.10 is officially supported.

    Cheers.

Where can you see what is officially supported?

On the BMD site they are listed as supported MC18.x and PT18.x

It's wierd that it's not mentioned explicitly in either the Readmes or the What's New files, but if you go to the Download Centre and click into the links to download the Avid Artist DNxIO drivers, the info is there. 10.9.8 was the approved version until 10.9.11 was posted on May 17.

Re: Which BM desktop video drivers for mini-monitor?

Wow - thanks. I'd never have seen that as I don't have any Avid artist I/O devices.

Looks like it may be DNxIO specific:

"Note: Avid has fully tested and supports Desktop Video 10.9.11 with Avid Artist | DNxIO and Avid Media Composer 8.9 or later. More recent releases of Desktop Video may become available from other sources but DNxIQ customers should only access/download/install Desktop Video builds that are available through their Avid Master Account or the Avid Download Center. Avid strongly discourages accessing updated builds from any other source as they could affect the performance and reliability of DNxIQ. Avid will post new Desktop Video updates to Avid Master Accounts and the Avid Download Center only after a full qualification with DNxIQ is completed."

Re: Which BM desktop video drivers for mini-monitor?

Well, Avid's DNxIO is simply re-badged BMD hardware, so I've always assumed it's necessary to use the BMD Desktop driver Avid recommends. I may be wrong, of course...

    MikeyB - you are correct.

You should alsways use the Avid Desktop video version.   There are notes on the download center stating as much.

    Hi Marianna,

Thanks for the confirmation!  Could I suggest it would be a good idea to include the info in the Readme for each release too?
