Re: Media Composer v2018.10 -- NOW AVAILABLE -- with Mojave support

Just upgraded to 2018.10 on my (fairly old) MB Pro running macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra and it hangs on Initializing Media Streams Manager. Have tried deleting all media database files; selectively mounting/unmounting external drives and starting with no drives at all; re-naming AMA Management folder to force a rebuild.

I noticed that the Avid FatalErrorReports was getting updated with each failed startup and the last 2 events on the EVENTLOG read:

    20181110232445 Hardware   OpenIO_NDI

20181111220309 Startup    Avid Media Composer Intel 64-bit(R) 18.10.0 Copyright 2003-2018 by Avid Technology, Inc. 49715

    20181111220319 Hardware   OpenIO_NDI

Any suggestions as to what else I should try?

Re: Media Composer v2018.10 -- NOW AVAILABLE -- with Mojave support

    Hi guys!

I am an AVID MC 8 user. After 4 years of honorable service, I decided it was time move to Avid 2018.10.

Now, my (hopefully?) easy question is, should I disinstall first MC 8 before installing MC 2018? I will start an new job next week and I don't want to unleash the havoc.

Please let me know , in case there is already a thread about this isssue. I don't want to generate too much entropy Big Smile

Tradionally, yes. I haven’t in recent times without issues.... but if you are uncertain, definitely. Especially since you are updating from an older version.  It doesn’t take much effort and you might have more peace of mind.  ;)

You should know that 2018.10 has a serious bug. Audio scrub while trimming will crash your Mac. Because of that I rolled back to 2018.8. For me that is the most stable version. Avid should fix the trim bug ASAP.

One more thing. Since I bought a MC 2018.10 one-year subscrition, am I entitled to roll back to 2018.8?

    + MOJAVE USERS:

Please note you may experience a significant delay in trying to install the application the first time, and the Finder may hang. Allow the process to complete after several minutes and you should be able to install successfully.

Thanks for the warning, I was prepared for that!

I don't know if this counts as audio scrubbing, but last night I was working on v2018.10 and I did a lot of adjusting on the audio mixer.  I didn't have any issues.  In fact, I wasn't even aware of your post until this morning.

Yesterday I downloaded MC 2018.8 "just in case", as a sort of panic button. As of now, so far so good. I'll keep you posted guys.

On a completely different note, does any of you know if I can go back and forth from MC 2018 to MC 8? Or does Avid discontinued the forward compatibility?

Answer:  Depends...  this talks to the older version useage

    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/Using-a-Media-Composer-8-0-Symphony-Option-or-NewsCutter-Option-license-to-activate-a-previous-version

On thing to remember it that at NAB 2018 we went to the new licensing model with MC First, MC and MC Ultimate so if you purchased after that then you can only go back that far
