    Canon HEVC H.265 4K Codec

Is it possible to AMA Link and import Canon HEVC H.265 4K (as shot on Canon XF705 camcorder) into Media Composer and then transcode to DNxHR?

Good question, I'd also like to know. Installled plugins from the canon website that claim to offer support for avid, but so far no joy....

You might need both the decoder:

as well as the Canon XF plugin:

Unfortunately, I don't have any Canon XF-HEVC material on which to test.

That XF plug-in on the avid page looks like it's the old one, not for the new XF705.

Trying out the one from canon now.

***EDIT/UPDATE...the xf avid plugin from canon works. I first tried it on an older MC version (2018.3) with no luck, but after updating to MC 2018.12.1, it's working fine.

Re: Canon HEVC H.265 4K Codec

I bought the Canon XF705 and I’ve been transcoding HEVC/.265 UHD to DNxHR HQX. Transcoding is very slow and I believe the DNxHR material has glitches in it. Is it reasonable to assume that MC will be coming up with a better solution in the near for transcoding in the future?

Re: Canon HEVC H.265 4K Codec

I was just exchanging emails with the folks at AVID and they said that the Canon HEVC .265 codec is not a supported fornmat for Media Composer . However, a feature request has already been created to support this format in future versions of MC.
