Re: macOS Catalina - Just Say NO!

Is there no "Open" button in the bottom of that message now when you right click it?

Dang sorry to hear that. Darn computers ...yes only my latest update of Mojave talked to AVID software ... you know there is always a work-around somewhere but ugh the time spent trying to find what's right for each of our systems. It shouldn't be this hard. Just know you're not alone! Marianna at AVID is helpful. I guess use FCP as a fallback (hours rendering) until AVID have a clear solution for us all.

No. Just and "OK" button. After I downloaded the beta form of AMC, I clicked on the Install Media Composer and the small vertical rectangular message that says "Verifyting Install Media Composer"... pops up with the status bar.. but after about 15 seconds, I get the message I previously mentioned in my last post. Very, very, very frustrating. Glad it works for other people.

Diamondfilms..think that's what I'm going to do. If I get used to it again, and its quirks, than I might just stay with it. Figure Apple would rather have people with their MacBooks use FCP, anyways. It's all a conspiracy hahahha.. We'll see. Thanks for your advice!

Ha, ha yes totally agree... they're currently forcing me off my perfectly good (but old) macbook because "my computer no longer supports the browser" and cannot open newer browser versions. Such a load of ... Ugh.

    Thanks Marianna!

This is really helpful and clear. I’ve been using Catalina for some weeks now having installed everything I needed on my new Mac. Now the Covid lockdown has forced me to run Avid on it too. Thanks to your post, I’ve realised that I have to abandon Catalina and clean install Mojave — and everything else! But at least I know it will be worth it.

I’m not much into IT — I’m an arts graduate who likes yoga and talking to trees — but I’m also a professional editor with serious clients, so needs must; stiff upper lip; Dunkirk spirit.

I must admit, I’ve used an internet search engine to ask for guidance. The internet, eh? Here’s what I’ve found:

    https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/clean-install-macos-3637409/

You have to be careful and read every word. I skipped a bit, and it set me back hours, but I still haven’t lost my *** because sometimes being an editor is like that.

Thanks again Marianna. Oh, by the way, can you give us an ETA on the Covid vaccine? I’m sure either Avid or Apple has one, but won’t let on.

    all the best

    Aldo

Re: macOS Catalina - Just Say NO!

Are Avid likely to make their April deadline for release of a fully Catalina compatible (i.e. non-beta) version of Media Composer?

You may have missed it, but it is currently slated for release this Monday, the 27th at 3pm ET.

I hope you are all well !

I have been using Macs and PCs for the last 30 years and

running Media Composer, ProTools, Adobe, DaVinci etc. as of the day they started.

After reading this whole conversation I just wanted to add:

JUST SAY NO TO APPLE !

They are causig all these problems because they want us to buy new machines.

Now they just copied the HPZ8, so I'd rather prefer the original.

    Best,

    Uli

Buying a new machine would have the same issues as my 8yo old iMac... because Avid are YEARS behind other software.

The HP Z is from 2009 IIRC and the Mac Pro from 2001. If there's a competition, some simple maths skills would help you. Wink

    Hi mrtymcin

We have been working with Media Composer and ProTools for many years without problems.

Big issues started with Apple the last years

And don't forget: "Always update to the latest version" is a maketing strategy!

We were thankful that Avid supported older systems and now they have to drop those too, mainly becasuse of Apple.

Just to say, Adobe had a very hard time as well and Blackmagic is not a miracle.

When it comes to maths: There is more to it than just a date. Have a look at a modern Z8 and compare to Mac pro 2019.

    Best,

    Uli
