Export mov container with xdcam hd 422 codec

In a avid media composer 2019.12 there is a free way to export an archive to a .mov container with the xdcam hd 422 60i codec, or the only way is from the Calibrated Xd?

You could do an export to MXF, then use Shutter Encoder to rewrap to mov.

If the solution i want does not exist this is an option, but I need a direct export from the avid media compositer.

I think it will take longer. You would need to do a Custom QT export, using the XDCAM codec. That woud use the old and slow 32bit QT engine. Much faster to do an MXF and a rewrap.

initially export time is not a problem. The search is for the most practical and cheap way.

OK, well, Shutter Encoder is free. Although they ask you to contribute a small fee. J

Re: Export mov container with xdcam hd 422 codec

I'm sorry, an original question was asked poorly. I know that the calibrated xd, which is paid for, allows me to export what I want directly from AMC. I was wondering if there is a way to do exactly the same thing, a direct export from AMC for free or cheaper.

Natively, there is no direct export to XDCAM as a MOV file. There are paid options to add plug-ins that will do this. You can download the Nablet XDCAM plug-in  (free; this replaces the olderr Sony AMA plug-in) and use this to export an XAVC file as an MXF. Then you'd have to rewrap to a MOV file using something like FFMPEG (this is very fast as it doesn't transcode, just changes the container format).

The AMC exports a mxf with xdcam hd compression 50 Mbits natively. Now, just use ffmpeg (how to use this is another question. I couldn't even install it.) To change the container to mov. Anyway thank you for all your help!

Download the latest ffmpeg and unzip it.

Move your mxf file into the ffmpeg folder

Open a command window and type

    -i yourfilename.mxf -vcodec copy -acodec copy yourfilename.mov

Or just use the rewrap function in Shutter Encoder as Job suggested in the first reply.

    -i yourfilename.mxf -vcodec copy -acodec copy yourfilename.mov

Just want to clarify this one a bit. If you don't set the windows file path, then you must also change your directory to where ever you installed ffmpeg and the issue the command:

ffmpeg -i yourfilename.mxf -vcodec copy -acodec copy yourfilename.mov

Without adding the directory in which ffmpeg is installed to the system path, you cannot issue the ffmpeg command except from the directry itself. Alternatively, you could install ffmpeg into a directory like C:\FFMPEG and issue the command c:\ffmpeg\ffmpeg -i ... from the directory where the .mxf file is located. It all depends on how you want to use it.

Yes.  That is why I gave an instruction to move the mxf file into the ffmpeg folder and run the command from there. :)

I did forget to mention to type "ffmpeg" at the beginning of the command.  Yikes, apologies.

And part of it was to say that using Shutter Encoder (or other ffmpeg GUI) is really an easier way to get to the same place.
