Based on indigospin's recent post about "My Discussions", I'm reviving this thread to ask if there has been any progress at all on the summary list I compiled here.

    Re: New Avid Site

    Hi Larry –

First, my apologies for the delay in responding to your post – I have not forgotten!

We’ve reviewed and had many a conversation about the suggestions listed here, some of which we’ll need further definition and clarification from the community on! While we haven’t implemented any changes as suggested here, we are doing behind-the-scenes work to bring those enhancements and more to life.

So what are we doing?  We want to get away from custom developing features and functions. With the growing social media/community application environment, we now have choices we didn't have 3 or 4 years ago.  To give you and other community members some background, when we first went through the application selection process for the Avid community platform, we found we had some unique needs, based on the professional video audience. For example, the ability to upload and share video was not something readily in most off-the-shelf apps.  However, we chose a product called “Community Server” which we were able to customize to some degree to add special features, such as the video exchange. Since then, there have been quantum leaps forward in Community/social media application platforms and CS 2008 now offers out-of-the-box some very cool capabilities that we’d like to take advantage of. So, while we haven’t been custom developing some of the requested features listed in this thread, we have been busy evaluating what it would take to upgrade us to the latest release of the software (kind of like going from MC 3.0 to 3.1!)   This would give us a more robust and stable application environment and one that sets us up for easier upgrades going forward.

In the meantime, our top priority is to ensure that the current Community is as stable and well performing as possible – so continue to let us know what’s not working, what you’d like, etc.  You can always post something here at the forums, or email me directly.

    Re: New Avid Site

OK, a few updates to the UI rolled out today which you may have already noticed.

    • original author now is listed after the thread title
    • three new links to support content are listed in the "Forum Meta" box on the forums main page (links to support, knowledge center, and download center)
    • number of view per thread is listed in a seperate column next to replies
    • any thread that is stickied now has the text "pinned" underneath it to try to distinguish these from the other posts

These are the first round of "quick to knock off" items that we were able to due independently of the larger effort being done to stabalize the application. If anyone comes across any problems related to the UI, let me know.

Where are you looking?  I see it on the main Media Composer - PC page, for example, but not on Active Topics or My Discussions.  It'd be cool if we could see it everywhere posts are listed.

YES it would.  99.99% of my forum browsing and replying is done in the Active forum.  Draw back is that the Active forum does not show which forum post is from,

Using the Active Forum insures that I only miss few of the GEMS that regularly pop up in any of the 10 or more forums beyond the 4 forums dedicated to systems I curently operate. It saves me time.
