    Apple Pro Res into AVID

    Hi there,

I'm new to the forum so please have mercy on me!

I've got the following Problem: I took over a job that's been shot on Red (4K). The files were converted into QT files Apple Pro Res HQ, cause the plan was to edit it in Final Cut. The final output will be a HD clip, I'm not going back to 4K or anything else. But me and FC don't go along very well so I tried importing the Pro Res files into Avid and - it worked fine! So now I thought why not doing the whole job in Avid. So I've set up a new project (1080i/50) and imported some test clips in 1920x1080 resolution with DNxHD 120. They look good but is that the right thing to do? Or what's equivalent to Pro Res HQ? And the size of the original QT clips is 2048x1024 so I'm wondering if there is a loss of quality when importing at a different size!?!

    Thanks so much

Re: Apple Pro Res into AVID

Sounds like you're in PAL land, so I don't want to give you bad advice, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that you probably want to look at your framerates. Most times, stuff that's shot with the Red is shot at 24p (ie 23.976). So I'd say you probably want to create a 1920x1080 23.976 frame project at the highest 10bit resolution, which is I think 175x.

Also, the Red can shoot at various aspect ratios, so make sure the images look right when imported.
