    Re: Media Composer 5 is coming...ProRes / H.264 / R3D Support!!

There has not been an announcement as to pricing yet.  Customers who purchase MC 4 now get MC 5 for free.  Keep in mind that there will always be some sort of cutoff and people will have bought right before it, so someone is always unhappy.

In hindsight, Avid often makes announcements around NAB, which is going on now (and always the middle of April) so I would always suggest waiting a couple of weeks instead of buying at the end of March.

I'm a facility owner who moved away from Avid some years ago. This is encouraging! However, my first question is whether the Matrox will co-exist with the Aja Kona 3 card. If so, you'll lure me back into at least offering my editors a choice of platforms.

    ajcatoline:

To clarify just the Matrox mini box will be supported with MC5, so that the next Matrox product up (that has HD/SDI I/O) won't "canabalize" the whole point of the MOJO DX.  Am I correct?  Thanks!

Has anyone heard whether the HDMI monitoring option would work on the other MXO2 boxes?

Good for you but, not really interested in an FCP solution.  So yes that's the price you pay to stay AVID.  And worth the loyalty with MC5 coming out.  For me, all my pro TV clients in LA are all Avid so I need to be in the Avid world.  And I'm glad to hear about your "about face" to come back to Avid.  What ar you gonna do with all that equipment?  But good luck!

    A.J.,

"Loyalty" has nothing to do with it...it's survival. All my "pro TV clients" don't give a hoot about what tool I use...they ask for me because of my creativity and work ethic. Some of us in smaller markets have to have many tools in our tool boxes to survive. We have to be able to work both Avid and Final Cut Pro gigs so it is important to us to create a solution that can work for both. I started this thread because MC5 is now looking more like an NLE I would like to use so I plan to add it to my toolbox. Am I being disloyal to Avid by using FCP? That's just silly.

Please just tell me that MC5 will support mac pro 3,1 2x2.8 quad-core xeon!  I've been trying to save up for mc 4 and now this!  I just don't want to have to buy a new mac pro.  Those things are friggin' expensive!

Nobody can tell, as qualifying systems will probably take right up to the release date.

That said, the Mac Pro you describe is a killer machine, so I cannot imagine MC5 not supporting it.
