• Re: iMac 5k
Something to bear in mind, retina screens are meant for general usability and are more beneficial for reading purposes than proper production work - especially graphics and video orientated stuff. It's a little OTT but imagine you are working on something where you need to be able to clearly see a single pixel

Depending on your workflow, you might want to consider using AMA for the GoPro footage, and once you have picture lock you can select your sequence and have media composer only transcode your AMA clips and they'll retain the motion adapters you put on them. From there you can bounce between davinci or whatever. I've found it easier to manipulate

  • Re: Washed Out Blacks AMA Linking to ProRes 422 HQ
As I said before, I would recommend NOT using QT Custom exports. I have seen gamma issues, not sure in which versions of QT. Trancode or mixdown to ProResHQ inside MC, not in the custom export. Also, transcoding (or mixing down) to ProRes HQ inside MC (plus a Same as Source export) is much faster compared to a custom

I've had good luck exporting to ProResHQ with the following settings. Export Settings: Custom Color Levels = 709 Format Options: ProResHQ Gamma Correction: Automatic When I AMA the resulting quicktime back to MC I don't get any color shifts.

  • Re: New features coming in 2Q 2014 - Okay, I am ready :)
That has not been my esperience. Having edited a number of hour and two hour projects for one of the biggest cable broadcasters, I found Avid a joy to work with - my projects had many different formats, different frame rates, and over 100 hrs. of footage in the last two. Avid ingested all this, via data and capture,
I agree things are changing and Avid needs to change as well. The question (one of many) is should this come before the new video playback engine? Before resolution independance? before AMA media management updatings? or any of the rest of the pressing changes. That's the problem. And for me I tend to be happy
PS. If anyone can convince me that the Avid Community Forums really are a "social media network" in the nowadays use of the term - I will be gone from here for good
First line out of wikipedia... " Social media is the social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information

  • SubCap: no captions from the source file overlap...

Dropped the Generate/Sub Cap effect on an emtpy layer above my edit. Went to Caption Files/Import Caption Data... Selected my .STL caption file and it show me this... "WARNING: NO CAPTIONS from the source file OVERLAP the selected clip." And, I can't import anything. I checked to make sure the sequence and the .STL file both start at 01
