  • Keyboard shortcuts when logging

When logging in MC 8.5.3. I notice that the "step forward 10 frames" and "step backwards 10 frames" shortcut keys on the Avid keyboard do not work. Step fwd/back 1 frame keys work fine though. Is there a cure for this? According to the keyboard setup, these keys are mapped and therefore should work :)

  • Re: Managing media

One nice feature with Avid is that when it creates an MXF file, it takes as the first 6 characters of the resulting filename the same first 6 characters of the clip name. Followed by a hyphen. This is useful. In our company we give each source videotape both an archive number and a reel number (the reel number being particular to the particular production

  • Re: Simplifying multiple frame grabbing

Not really, because that would result in individual framegrabs that no longer were identified by clip ID. The advantage of the present manual export approach is that the system creates a default filename based on the clip name. If you export more than one grab from a single clip, you need to add a suffix to the second so as not to overwrite the first
  • Simplifying multiple frame grabbing

I often make framegrabs from my captured footage for use in other media. I typically do this clip by clip in the source viewer using the "Export to file>tiff" option. Handling maybe 100 framegrabs in this way is slow because of the multiple mouseclicking and the necessity of creating a unique name when grabbing several shots from a single
  • L-R inversion of Nitris DX AES output

I have noticed that the AES output from my MC Nitris DX box seems to be inverted (left on right and right on left) during logging and capturing. I can diagnose this phenomena clearly by the following - Log/digitize a clip from VTYR where the rigth channel has a higher level than the left - for instance an interview mic on the right (ch.2) and a camera

  • Automatic deletion of unused rendered media (effects)

Is there any way to get MC to automatically delete render files related to clips with applied effects that have been deleted from a timeline - just to avoid having to weed them out manually afterwards?

  • Default location of Avid user settings file(s)?

I'm running MC 8.5.3 on Win7x64. I'm just doing a cleanup and backup after completing a job. I am trying to find the default location for the users file. I have a user setting called "Adrian 001" (which works fine in MC) but I can't seem to find it at OS level to make a backup - can any Windows user tell me where Avid saves this

  • Re: Standalone MXF viewer/player

Thanks for the replies MPC-HC works very well (though only the x64 version). My version of VLC (2.1.3) doesn't seem to support MXF, but maybe it needs a later version - but with MPC I solved the riddles and finished cleaning up.

  • Standalone MXF viewer/player

I've spent the day tidying up my storage arrays and I have a few mxf files which I am unable to identify - either by name, date or content. It would be easy if I could simply open and play them - but with what? I tried importing to Avid, but that doesn't seem to work - and I tried all the media players I have on stock, but none of them will

  • Re: Managing media

I guess every editor has his or her own prefeneces regarding media management - one thing seems obvious though - unless you are happy with leaving everything to Avid and working with that, some form of folder sorting is an advantage - becuasae then you can see and track at OS level what data is where, which makes backing up, moving files and deleting
