  • Re: i9 vs Threadripper (Intel vs AMD) plus some test results

My experience with MC on Threadripper differs from project to project, but in general I would not recommend it. With DNxHD/HR it runs quite smooth, especially 1080p (but of course, any cheap PC will handle this). But I notice the different between "quite smooth" and "really fast" as soon as I fire up Premiere, which is a lot faster

  • Re: Avid turning my clips blue in media composer 2018.7

For me this issue seems to be fixed in 2018.8 (dual copy engine still disabled). Unfortunately, 2018.8 has other bugs that make it unusable (can't open some bins from existing projects anymore), so once again I'm back to 2018.4. Maybe next month :)

I'm having the same issue, indeed a GTX 1080 Ti. Disabling dual copy engine gets everything back to normal when playback is paused, but during playback everything becomes blue again... Any other solutions, apart from reverting to 2018.4? Was kinda happy with the live timeline.

  • Re: Win10 Pro or Creators?

ck123 is right with the edition/versioning names (although the next update for Windows 10 will be called Windows 10 April 2018 Update, not Spring Creators Update). I run the Fall Creators Update and have zero problems with it. MC will run on the Home edition of Windows 10, but it's not supported by Avid, so customer service won't be happy if

  • Re: Sluggish timeline performance (MC2018.2)

I did some more tests and the slowdowns were caused by having iZotope Neutron plugin on one of the audio tracks. After removing Neutron the excessive slowdowns are pretty much gone and MC now runs OK (but is still less responsive than some of its competitors). Glad to have figured that out! Back to using the build-in audio effects. @George, thanks for

  • Re: Sluggish timeline performance (MC2018.2)

Hi George, thanks for your reply. The machine wasn't specifically build for MC (I do most of my work in Adobe Premiere), and with these specs I expected Avid to work perfectly fine, even for an unsupported system. I'm working with 1080p DNxHD files, nothing out of the ordinary. Playback performance is good, no troubles there. Moving the playhead

  • Sluggish timeline performance (MC2018.2)

The timeline in Media Composer lags an awful lot. I had this problem on my laptop before, and expected things to be better on my newly build desktop. However, performance is still terrible. Performing an extract operation takes about a second before anything happens. CTRL+Z takes maybe two seconds before the result is visible. My system: AMD Ryzen Threadripper

  • Re: What Avid Media Composer Should Have in 2018

I'd very much appreciate it if the undo history doesn't get deleted when switching to a different sequence. Apart from that there are many big things that Avid needs to improve, and most of those have been mentioned and discussed here already. However, I have little hope that much is going to happen in 2018 or beyond, as they seem unable to

  • Re: Any Media Composer news at NAB?

Are there any updates from IBC on the planned features that were shown in the graphic last May? Next-gen title tool didn't make it in April, so I'm wondering how the rest is coming along. And are there any details about how certain tools will be improved? For example, what does enhanced color correction mean? The realtime scopes in 8.9 could

  • Re: Any chance we can get Avid to scale on a 4k screen anytime soon?

Media Composer looks as sharp as it gets on my 4K screen with 125% scaling in Windows 10 (Creators Update). However, it would be useful if certain windows/tools have a flexible (instead of a fixed size) layout, so that they scale within MC if I increase their window size. For example right now the audio mixer and color correction tools have a fixed
