• Re: Panasonic GH5 4k 10 bit files black video

Are you actually seeing black in Media Composer? Or are you just trying to play the files on your computer? I've found that Window Media Player is very poor for viewing 4K video, and you need something like VLC to preview your shots. However, once linked and transcoded in Media Composer, the shots will be fine. If you haven't actually linked

  • Re: New Avid Title Tool DOA?

I appreciate your sentiment, but I think we're using the term "features" in the broadest possible sense. I just went through the list you linked, and really the only item of substance (for me) was the support for higher-than-HD resolutions. That addition is pretty great, and I'll concede that point. But what you've pointed out

  • Re: New Avid Title Tool DOA?
All the other items they demonstrated or talked about in NAB are in the EARLY stages of development.... Because they are NOT ready for public consumption they have not been heavily publicized yet.
This is a fair response, and I guess I'm expecting too much communication from Avid. It would seem I'm overly

  • Re: New Avid Title Tool DOA?

This is all really good information. If I may take the opportunity to point out to Avid executives and PR folks that this seems to be the first place that this information has been shared with their non-NAB-attending userbase. By a random user who seems to be a non-Avid-employee. Several posts down. On an obscure forum post. Five days after-the-fact

  • New Avid Title Tool DOA?

So with all the confusing messaging that Avid is putting out about Media Composer, I've noticed that the highly touted "New Title Tool" that was announced 1 year ago seems to be forgotten, and not mentioned at all at this NAB. It seems this announced feature is now DOA? While trying to gain info on NAB, all I'm finding is a super amateurish

  • Update on Live Timeline Feature, Please?

Based on news from NAB, Avid apparently announced the new Live Timeline feature. Perhaps even demonstrating it? Regardless, based on information here, it would seem that this feature is definitely NOT in the 18.4 release. So, I was wondering if anyone at Avid could update folks who are not at NAB what exactly is going on? A summary of the NAB presentation

  • Delay of iLok Activation Every Day

So when I restart my PC, if I immediately start my dongle-activated Media Composer, I get a warning about DRM and not having audio activated or something like that. I can get this to go away by opening the iLok application, but even that will sometimes take several attempts - like it needs some time to warm-up. After time, it all sorts itself out, but

  • Effects Influencing ALL Layers Below [Open Letter to Avid]

So I've spent yet another afternoon fighting with Media Composer because applying an effect will always make that effect influence everything below it. Why? Again, no editor ever in the history of time wanted the timeline to work in this unbearable counter-intuitive way. Is there even a plan to EVER fix the effect structure?

  • Re: New Blue Titler v5

Fortunately, Avid has stated very publicly that they are working on a new Title Tool - and accoring to them, it will be ready roughly one year ago! You read that right - according to a slide they themselves presented at NAB 2017, the new tool will be ready as soon as last April!! Woo! All you need to do is travel 10 months in the past, and it SHOULD

  • Re: 3D Pixar Animations

If you have multiple tens of thousands of dollars gathering dust, then Maya is perhaps what you're looking for. If you want to spend less (i.e. free) and get nearly identical results, then Blender is what you want. Blender is open-source, and is updated constantly. It already has more features than you'll ever use. Honestly, I can't think
