• Re: MC 2018.10 to Latest? Promo Production House

First, for a test system, you could set up a dual boot partition. That way you would be able to see how it works with your shared storage and normal hardware. Simple as the cost of a small drive. As for the Titler +, I have no real experience. But original title tool is not really dead. It can be installed on non Catalina OS as an additional install

I totally agree w Mercer. You need to set up a test machine for all to play with. The big thing to know is that for the first time in Avid history, your project in 2020.4 MIGHT not be backwards compatiblle. This mainly has to do with new linking tools and the elimination of QT. Why is this important? If you all switched to 2020.4, ran it for awhile

  • Re: NEW MAC PRO

I would only make one comment on Pat's info. The type of codec you are getting CAN make difference in performance. If you are given 8k Red footage, ANY system will struggle. As Pat said, you really should clearly and coldly define your needs and move backwards from there. And that means looking at the type of work you do as well as the kinds of
I'll give 2020.4 a try now, although I truly resent having to recreate my usersettings for the umptieth time. Media Composer is the only software that seems to need that, as far as I know.
When I was editing on Smoke the mantra was "New Version - New User". Jef
Jef I've had this problem too on 2018.12.8. It seems to have stopped now that I've made a custom colour timeline view with my scopes either side of my centre panel and then I dragged that timeline view in to my site settings. It seems to start up now with the scopes in the right place. Don't know about

A bit off topic, but related (I think). How do you make scopes stick on one or more of the three windows in the CC panel of none 2020 Avid? I thought I had done that once, but it ain't work'n now. Restart Avid and they are gone. Jef

i think it does insert to an AS11 these days (essence only, not metadata)
In further testing it seems that it only inserts *video* to an AS11 file. It seems to do that successfully (although there is an error message at the end & a lot of error messages in the console). [/quote

  • Re: Sideways Dissolves vs Over/Under Dissolves

One more thought. If my suggestion above does not work, try making a new User and then see how it works. Sometimes user settings get corrupted and really odd things occur. Jef

  • Re: Sideways Dissolves vs Over/Under Dissolves

I am concerned that you did not understand my suggestion. Try the following Remove both dissolves on the two layer version. Now add a dissolve to the upper layer clip. BUT make sure it is not the same length as the original one. Make is 1 frame shorter. Does that dissolve icon have the green dot? Jef

  • Re: Sideways Dissolves vs Over/Under Dissolves

Had you tried rendering this before? It looks as if you might have. If there is a green dot on an effect, it has not been rendered. The single layer has a green dot on it. In the two layer version I see no green dot on the upper dissolve. Even though you may have removed the lower dissolve, the previous render could still be present. I would get rid
