• Re: Intel v AMD for MC
And yes facilities with complex setups and many systems, even with approved machines, can have crashes but we know that can happen just with a duff user profile copied in by a freelancer. Supporting that sort of setup is only viable with established supported hardware. No Broadcaster or large facility uses anything
I sometimes work for a company that runs HP Z machines in 5 suits . All qualified on Avid storage Interplay. They have an 'Avid specialist' in the tech dept and still it will sometimes crash a few times a day. I understand that a qualified rig is the safe route but I like to build my own systems so will continue
Your point about serious editors should use qualified is laughable imo. I am serious.. I've made my living as an editor for 15 years (have bought real estate with this career) and would not buy qualified EVER (there's absolutely no need for me). But I work on my personal setups a lot so this is not a reccomendation

  • Re: MEDIA COMPOSER 2019.12.1 AVAILABLE TODAY 4 MAY 2020

What's the purpose of maintaining Long Stream Maintenance Releases for 2019.12.x when it's natural update is 2020.4? Surely as it's the new interface? Is it not confusing? Do both these Long Stream Maintenance Releases (2018 & 2019) include the new DNxH codecs?
Xeon will under perform compared a 5ghz consumer cpu with games.
That's why it's 'horses for courses'. If you want to game get a gaming laptop. If you want to edit and finish for high end feature films and broadcast TV, then a dual Xeon will outperform any single cpu gaming laptop by a margin

  • Re: Disappointing DNxID

As far as I understood, or so Avid support told me, DNxID works out of the box for guide vo and audio punch in, without any extra hardware? The 4K mini works fine with composite and ref in signal added. There is no h.264 hardware accel in the 4K Mini either. DNxHR is just for capture and as there are no 'decks' with DNxHR, or rather no one captures

  • Re: Any recommendations for small client monitors using 1080p25 HDMI output

It's a common problem with BMD devices and older consumer HD monitors/PC monitors. My Sony Bravia client monitor accepts 1080p from anything else in all formats but will only accept 1080i from the Ultrastudio as psf. You could try Doctor HDMI from HDFury. My grading monitor does accept everything from the Ultrastudio though. For that money a consumer
After researching possible configs one thing that has become clear to me is just how far 'gamers' can push their imtel and AMD systems and components. This could only help to prove component longevity as MC would.never push such components so far.
This is simply not true. Most gamers pamper their machines
Avid have made it clear Avid support for QT will be removed in a future release. But no mention of when.
OK but QT Ref + SS is still quicker and more efficient than anything else, so let's hope when they do they make the workflow clear and better, because this thread proves that is not yet the case.
You'll have to uninstall it sooner or later.
It doesn't actually explicitly say that although clearly the full move to ume implies it. What it does say is: Note that if you use v2020.4 on a system with QuickTime still installed, you may not experience any immediate changes to working with files that rely
