  • Re: Questions RE: "How Avid Media Composer Uses a Computer"

Hi Chris, Many thanks for this post. A quesiton about codec handling as it relates to real time playback. Perhaps Shailendra could offer some thoughts or commentary on the following... One thing that has been both curious and frustrating comes with how reliable or robust the playback is for a given codec...

Does anybody have a workaround for the DNxHR/DNxHD codec subsitution in Adobe After Effects 2017? Not only did they severely limit the options in the new substituted codec they also removed the ability to select 709/RGB and the ability to have Trillions of colors (now limited to Millions of colors)....

In an unplanned situation I have an isolated computer with no internet access and an operator with a drive full of AVID codec quicktimes. I think the system is a stock Mavericks or Yosemite MacMini. I need to be able to instruct the operator who is not an editor, to open the QTs and identify the specific...

  • Researching a workflow for mixed DNxHD and ProRes media

Hello all. We did a project a while back in Symphony 5.5 where we were given all our source media in ProRes 422 HQ. At the time, the best workflow we knew of was to AMA link to the ProRes files, and then transcode them to DNxHD (at the time we were having trouble with the reliability of AMA linking)...

  • Importing massively increases the file size

I notice that when I import a 700MB .avi file using the default resolution (1:1 10b RGB MXF) I wind up with a 38GB .mxf file! Switching to the other choice (DNxHD), the resulting file size is more manageable. So what is that first one (1:1) used for? Why does it increase the file size so dramatically...
