Are 2.5 Gb and 5 Gb, connections supported.

    Hi All,

Seeing as M1 Mac's with 10GigE ports now natively support 2.5Gb, and 5Gb connections, I'm wondering if connection to a switch at these speeds are supported (or not).

(I'm not sure if the length of our Cabling will support a full 10 Gb connection over Eth).

Rather than connecting all our machines with dual gig E, I'd love if I could connect with either 2.5 Gb, or 5 Gb.

Anyone know if these speeds are allowed?

    Thanks,

    Interesting question. I'm curious too.

A workaround might be is to allow 10Gb connction but limit device bandwidth in the Nexis web GUI.

    I did have that thought...

In the particurlar venue where we are setting up this project, I think some of the cable runs are be greater than 55m (but less than 100m), so I'm thinking getting stable connectivity at 2.5G or 5G will be easy, but it might be more difficult to have all suites connected at 10GbE

    Only CAT6 and not CAT6A?

Understood. In theory 2.5 and 5 should work but may just not be optimized.

my bigger question would be: can you get a supported/supportable switch in an appropriate timeframe that supports Nbase-T? lead time on network gear is pretty long. If the network adapter is qualified for 10G and also supports NBase-T, my inclination is that it should work, but i've also seen enough weird *** to think it might break in a new and exciting way.
