I am a little confused. I bought some songs off itunes to use for my personal project. I burned them to a CD and then loaded that CD into my avid system (not connected to the net). Now the songs won't play. It says next to the song "protected". Is that the problem or is it that I need an itunes player to actually play the songs? If I added the itunes player to my avid computer, would the songs play inside my avid program? Being my avid system is not on-line, how could I even add the itunes player to my computer? Thank you !!

Most songs in the iTunes store are DRM protected. Also, they are AAC, which I don't think is a format that Avid supports for import (but I reserve the right to be wrong). To import the tracks, burn them to an Audio-CD (not as a data-CD). At that point, the AAC files are extracted to PCM, then written to disc, so no more DRM. Then import that CD into your Avid.
QTs purchased from iTunes are MP4p, meaning they have DRM written into them and cannot be imported into the Avid.
To get around this, burn them to a CD as CD Music files rather than the MP4ps and THEN import them into your Avid.
And...don't use them in anything you are going to show to anyone on a large scale.

wow..almost in Stereo.
Thank you very much!
Ok, so I tried to burn the songs using roxio easy cd and dvd buring and this program doesn't support the itunes music file (which is .m4p). Does anyone know of another cd/dvd burning program that's pretty easy and will burn itunes music files? And vista compatible? Thanks!
You need to burn the CD from the original itunes computer within iTunes. For this reason I now purchase all of my online music from Amazon - they are unprotected MP3 files and can be imported into Avid easily.
Also don't install QT on your editing machine. It will probably install another version of QT than Avid likes.

I'm pretty sure you meant to say "don't install Itunes" :) and I couldn't agree more!
Another problem with installing Itunes is even more "Apple-ications" running in the background trying to update both your Itunes and Quicktime every day, as well as always being on the lookout for an Ipod to be hooked up to the system.
Make sure you only install the Quicktime player that is specified, and without Itunes. Make sure you go into preferences in the Quicktime player and remove "Check for updates automatically". On Windows-machines I also uninstall the Apple update utility or what it's called from "Add/remove programs"
For a list of supported Quicktime version (and nVidia drivers) check the Readme pdf of your Avid or go here:

Whooaaaa That is stupid, tnx Fred for noticing. let's repeat and correct... Do Not Install ITunes!!!
I do run iTunes on my Avids. I don't ever upgrade iTunes versions unless I'm upgrading to a supported QT version, I don't use iTunes to make purchases in the iTunes store, but I do use iTunes as a music database. Works fine, has been working fine for years.
Same here Job, I only use another computer for it. Upgrading most of the times means that all sorts of background processes are installed that only use recources. So to be on the safe side I use another computer for that.
Been using iTunes on my Mac and PC Avid for years. Doesn't cause any issues.
less you update, are on the net etc I presume? Disabled all extra processes?
Ok, I have to moderate myself.
iTunes may or may not cause an issue. If people install it they should set it up properly to make sure it doesn't update. It's all about setting up a system that's stable and then messing with it as little as possible I guess. Used to be a lot stricter what was good and bad practice when it comes to putting other applications on the same machine as Avid.
I always try to keep the applications running in the background every time I start windows to a bare minimum at least. Of course - some systems can be perfectly stable with a whole lot of different applications running all the time.
....so I wouldnt advise anyone to install Itunes unless they knew what they were doing, and were capable of fixing it if things went wrong :)
